BLEND LOCAL CURRICIULUM

Local curriculum is about designing rich opportunities and coherent pathways for all learners that are unique to your school. We can facilitate review and design of your local curriculum within the framework of the NZ Curriculum using your learning focused relationships and what works for you. We can provide a specific focus on leading local curriculum through digital technology, science, STEM and social sciences. Our aim is to build teacher's confidence and seamlessly integrate across the curriculum, ensuring it becomes time effective for teachers and meaningful for students within authentic local contexts.

LEADING THROUGH DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

Blend can develop your school's high impact practices to help you design and implement a school curriculum where students can become creative, critical thinkers and designers of technology.

We can support students to become problem finders and problem fixers using digital technology. Using the design thinking process, teachers and students develop their confidence as potential creators of digital technology solutions that solve real life, local problems in the community.

Kids in Technology Class

To get started choose one area of the curriculum to focus on. We can facilitate your review  through questions around the high impact practices in relation to that curriculum area and provide you with next steps working through the Local curriculum toolkit and series handbook.

LEADING THROUGH BLENDED INQUIRY

Blended inquiry means engaging students effectively across the NZ curriculum in science, social studies, technology and sustainability. It is about planning robust and rigorous inquiries where students are getting hands-on and learning through creating, explaining, comparing, making links through critical thinking and teachers feel confident acting as a guide through the inquiry process. Technology is integrated, classrooms are flipped, students become self managing however they are still carefully scaffolded for success, providing opportunities for deep thinking, use of technology and time to celebrate their learning.

LEADING THROUGH SCIENCE AND STEM

Science and STEM provide many options to use the freedom we have within the NZC to engage learners in authentic contexts. So it makes perfect sense to use science and STEM to lead local curriculum. Natural links to other curriculum areas present opportunities to integrate across the learning areas, connecting new knowledge and understanding in a durable manner. As with all the work we do, we look to build teacher confidence using this and the leverage of tools and contexts available to maximise positive outcomes.
