BLEND AOTEAROA'S HISTORY
The draft histories curriculum is all about what learning we cannot leave to chance. Aotearoa New Zealand’s histories curriculum content supports a focus on critical citizenship – understanding the past to make sense of the present and to inform future decisions and actions. It focuses on stories of interactions across time that connect us to one another and to place. There are three elements to the histories curriculum content: UNDERSTAND, KNOW, and DO and teachers will need to design learning experiences that blend these elements together, so that student learning is deep and meaningful.
DIGITAL STORYTELLING
Blend can work with teachers to ensure we unpack the new curriculum in an easy to understand manner, together. We can facilitate planning rich inquiries that cover the new curriculum outcomes.
An effective way to actualise and plan for delivering the curriculum within an engaging context is to blend digital technologies into this learning. Students can tell stories digitally of voyages, traditions and timelines.

LEADING THROUGH BLENDED INQUIRY
Blended inquiry means engaging students effectively across the NZ curriculum in science, social studies, technology and sustainability. It is about planning robust and rigorous inquiries where students are getting hands-on and learning through creating, explaining, comparing, making links through critical thinking and teachers feel confident acting as a guide through the inquiry process. Technology is integrated, classrooms are flipped, students become self managing however they are still carefully scaffolded for success, providing opportunities for deep thinking, use of technology and time to celebrate their learning.
